Alfred FOURNIÉ was born on October 10, 1841 in Clairac. He is the son of Joseph Fournié, a carpenter, aged thirty-four, and Marie Sourisseau, his wife.
EEnlisted as a private on September 5, 1862, in the 3rd Marine Infantry Regiment, he was appointed corporal on March 7, 1863, sergeant on March 26, 1864, furrier sergeant on August 2, 1865, sergeant second class on July 16, 1867, and sergeant major on October 13, 1867. He was posted to the 4th Marine Infantry Regiment on January 25, 1868. He was appointed warrant officer non-commissioned officer on July 25, 1870.
Assigned as second lieutenant to the 1st Marine Infantry Regiment on August 15, 1870, he was appointed lieutenant on July 20, 1874, then lieutenant of arms on November 21, 1876. On April 8, 1879, he was assigned to the 2nd Colonial Disciplinary Company. Appointed captain on April 3, 1880, he was posted on that date to the 4th Naval Infantry Regiment, then on September 6, 1880 to the 1st Naval Infantry Regiment, on October 6, 1881 to the Staff, hors cadre, and on October 3, 1884 to the 2nd Naval Infantry Regiment. On July 31, 1885, he was appointed clothing captain of the 1st marine infantry regiment. He married Éveline, Marie and Angèle Hédiard on January 23, 1877. After the death of his first wife, he remarried Marguerite Éveline Duboc.
He received in 1878 and 1879 a token of appreciation from the Minister of Marine and Colonies for the proper armament of the Corps, and another in 1879 for “the zeal and devotion he displayed during the fire which broke out in St. Peter's, Newfoundland, on the night of August 15-16, 1879.”
He was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur by decree of October 29, 1887. His knight's cross was presented to him in Cherbourg on February 11, 1888 by Colonel Chaumont, commander of the 1st infantry regiment of the navy. He campaigned in Cochinchine from 1864 to 1868, against Germany from September 29, 1870 to March 6, 1871, and again in Cochinchine from 1871 to 1873, in 1875, in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon in 1879 and 1880, and in New Caledonia from 1881 to 1885.
He died on June 18, 1914 in Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives (Calvados).
