Ernest, Alexandre CAMPAGNE was born on November 27, 1871 in Clairac. He is the son of Adrien, Charles Campagne, hatter, aged twenty-six, and Suzanne Faragou, his wife, aged twenty-three
Enlisted as a volunteer for four years on November 3, 1892 as an artillery officer and from October 1 as a student at the Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures, he was assigned to the 13th Divisional Artillery Regiment of Castres on that date. He was appointed second lieutenant in reserve on October 1, 1895 in this regiment, and then classified in the 4th Foot Artillery Battalion on November 12, 1896, and in the 2nd Company of Artillery Workers on April 3, 1900. Promoted to reserve lieutenant on 3 October 1805, he was assigned to the E.M.P., Toulouse artillery equipment depot on October 25, 1910.
He married Marcelle, Catherine, Sophie Stoeckel on November 3, 1910 in Paris.
IHe was assigned to the manufacturing workshop in Toulouse on April 25, 1912. He was recalled to the activity on August 3, 1914 (general mobilization). Placed on leave without pay from April 1, 1916 to December 15, 1918, he was demobilized on December 16, 1918. He joined the E.M.P. manufacturing workshop in Toulouse on April 25, 1920 and a decision was made to keep him on the staff on October 11, 1922. He was appointed captain on August 28, 1923 in the same workshop where he remained until September 5, 1928.
He was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur by decree of November 5, 1928. His knight's cross was presented to him by Paul, André Schuler, engineer, director of banknote manufacturing at the Banque de France, on November 25, 1928, in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
He died on February 28, 1952 in Paris, 12th arrondissement.
