Guillaume LAFORÊT

1844-1870

Guillaume LAFORÊT was born in Clairac on Septembre 1st 1844. He is the son of Jean Laforêt and Marie Touzat.
He was incorporated on August 23, 1865 as a conscript in the 20th Artillery Regiment (class 1864). He joined his unit on August 25th as 2nd gunner driver. On March 1, 1867, he was appointed 1st gunner driver and on January 16, 1869, he was appointed fireworksman. He was placed in the reserve on March 5, 1870. Recalled to active duty by ministerial decision of 14 July 1870, he rejoined his corps on 20 July 1870. He was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur by decree of 20 August 1870.
He was killed by a shell at the Battle of Sedan on September 1, 1870.
