Jean MARTHORY

1830-...

Jean Baptiste Emmanuel MARTHORY was born in Clairac on May 4, 1830. He is the son of Louis, André, Casimir Marthory, a travelling collector from the indirect tax office of this town, and Marie, Eglantine Grenier. He is the brother of Jean Baptiste Marie François Clément Albin Marthory, above.
He began his career as an assistant in the Post Office of Sidi-Bel-Abbès on October 1st 1857, then as a clerk in the African Treasury on August 3rd 1858, where he became assistant on January 1st 1870. Appointed private paymaster of the cavalry of the 4th Rhine army corps on August 2nd 1870, he was paymaster of the 15th Loire army corps and the East army on November 28, 1870.
Private payer to the African Treasury in Biskra in January 1879, then in Tizi-Ouzou (Algeria), he was named Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur by decree of December 29, 1884. His decoration was presented to him at Tizi-Ouzou on February 9, 1885 by the (retired) battalion commander Léopold Le Blanc.
