Pierre AILLET

1831-1897

Pierre AILLET was born on January 22, 1831 in Clairac. He is the son of Jean Aillet and Jeanne Tremouille, his wife. He enlisted on November 15, 1853 as a soldier in the 46th Line Infantry Regiment. He was appointed corporal on May 16, 1854, furrier sergeant on January 5, 1853, sergeant on June 16, 1853, sergeant major on July 20, 1856, and warrant officer on November 25, 1857. Appointed second lieutenant in the 45th Line Infantry Regiment on May 31, 1859, he married Rose, Marie Gastaud on April 1, 1860.
He campaigned in Italy from 3 May to 15 June 1859. He was entrusted with the function of standard bearer of the regiment on January 21, 1863. Promoted lieutenant on June 24, 1865, then captain on August 25, 1870, he was assigned to the 35th Regiment of Marching Infantry on October 16, 1870, which became the 35th Regiment of Line Infantry on August 1, 1871. He campaigned against Germany from July 19, 1870 to March 7, 1871 and inland campaign in St. Etienne from March 25 to April 1, 1871.
He holds the Italian medal. He was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur by decree of 3 August 1875. His knight's cross was awarded to him in Belfort on 2 September 1875 by General Meunier, commander of the 28th infantry brigade. He died on May 25, 1897.
