Émile SILVESTRE de FERRON

1863-1936

Émile, Édouard SILVESTRE de FERRON was born on December 2, 1863 in Clairac. He is the son of Philippe, Alfred Silvestre de Ferron, the owner, aged thirty-seven, and Adèle de Saffin, in a family nicknamed Amélie, his wife, aged thirty.
Enlisted as a volunteer in the 2nd Cuirassiers Regiment on March 13, 1885, he was appointed brigadier on September 19, 1881, furrier brigadier on July 16, 1886, maréchal-des-logis on September 17, 1886, maréchal-des-logis-fourrier on May 22, 1888 and maréchal-des-logis-chef on July 7, 1888. Appointed marshal-des-logis cadet on September 30, 1889, he attended the Cavalry Training School as a cadet from October 1, 1889 to August 31, 1890.
He graduated 23rd out of 99 students and was posted as second lieutenant to the 3rd Dragon Regiment on December 29, 1890. He was appointed lieutenant on December 39, 1892. He married Jeanne, Renée Benoît on June 9, 1893, and they had three boys and two girls.
Appointed first lieutenant in the same regiment on November 17, 1897, he was appointed training captain in the 1st Cuirassiers regiment on July 12, 1903. He received a Testimony of Satisfaction from the Minister of War on March 23, 1906 “for the zeal he brought to the operation of the schools of instruction”. On December 22, 1906, he was posted as Captain Commanding of the 15th Dragon Regiment.
He was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur by decree of 16 September 1910. His knight's cross is presented to him by the President of the Republic. He died in 1936 in Nantes.
